This message contains several key points of information for healthcare needs as we enter the 2025 school year.
If your middle school student requires prescription medication the school nurse must have a current GMS Medication Form on file. Important reminders:
1. Medication must be brought to school by the parent or caregiver, never a student
2. Medication Forms must be signed by the prescriber AND the parent or caregiver;
3. Medications and signed forms may be brought to GMS.
4. If your student is diagnosed with a medical condition such as asthma, seizures, food allergies or diabetes, and requires emergency medication, please submit a completed medical form to the school nurse. Please email Nurse Boggs at bboggs@glnd.k12.va.us to schedule a time to meet prior to the first day of school if needed.

Service Leadership Academy Offering
Students: You have the opportunity to apply for the Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy, a service-based leadership program at our school. To be considered, you must collect three teacher recommendations. It is your responsibility to bring the recommendation form to your teachers, ask them to complete it, and ensure it is returned to Ms. Baird. All recommendations are due by Wednesday, September 3rd.
GMS ATHLETICS
VHSL Sports Physical REQUIRED in order for any student to participate in tryouts
Without a completed and up-to-date Sports Physical students will not be eligible to participate in GMS Athletics Program.
Students may submit forms to Mrs. Tracy Davis by email, at Back to School Night, the GMS front office, or to the coach on the 1st day of tryouts.

Cross Country
Cross Country tryouts will begin on Tuesday, August 26th. Student must have a physical on file to participate. Students will need an appropriate change of clothes, running shoes, and a water bottle. Tryout will be from 3:45 to 5:15, please pick up students in front of the school at 5:15.

Are you ready for fun, teamwork, and innovation?
Do you want to develop 21st-century skills while solving real-world problems—including challenges inspired by space exploration?
Then it’s time to apply for Goochland Middle School’s FTC Robotics Team!
Our season will start with weekly Monday meetings (pickup at 5:00 PM) and expand as we get closer to competitions, giving you plenty of time to design, build, and program your robot.
Space is limited! Not everyone who applies will be selected, so put your best effort into your application.

We made it through the 1st Week of School!!
The PTSA treated students and staff to Ice Pops on Friday during lunches to celebrate! Thank you to the volunteers who made it possible. More exciting events are just around the corner and we need your help to make them SOAR!
Do you like preparing meals and decorating a beautiful table? The Hospitality Team is looking for a few members to provide our teachers with meals and organize the teacher's lounge on stock the lounge days. There are 3 Teacher Meals and 2 Stock the Lounge days scheduled for this school year. Email GMSEaglesPTSA@gmail.com if you would like to be part of the Hospitality Team.
Do you like throwing a fun themed party? The Student Social Team needs volunteers to pull off an awesome afterschool event for the students on October 10th. The Social (similar to a school dance) is a time for students to hang out with their friends, listen to music, play games, make crafts, and be silly together! Backpacks of LOVE
Backpacks of Love, Inc. is a local nonprofit organization that has been providing weekend food bags to school children who may not have enough to eat at home since 2011. These food bags are distributed discreetly by school staff on the last school day of each week.

Canvas is the learning management system for Goochland County Public Schools. Teachers deliver instructional materials, assignments, etc., through Canvas, and it is recommended that parents create an account to view their child’s progress in Canvas.
