🍃🐝 Goochland Outdoors 2025 🐝🌳
Last Thursday, all of our 5th graders from Goochland, Randolph, and Byrd Elementary Schools came together at Westview on the James for Goochland Outdoors — a day of hands-on learning in nature!
Students had the chance to:
🐝 Learn from one of our very own teachers (and beekeeper!) about the vital role bees play in our ecosystem.
🌳 Hear from True Timber arborists about the importance of trees and vegetation in keeping our environment healthy.
🌱 Work alongside Master Gardeners to explore native and non-native plants and their impact on our ecosystems.
This special day gave our students the chance to connect classroom learning with the natural world around them — sparking curiosity and appreciation for the environment. 🌎✨

🍔🌭 Before kickoff at Goochland High School’s first home football game, our GCPS family came together for an employee cookout! Superintendent Armstrong and Assistant Superintendents Waggener and Geyer fired up the grill, serving burgers, hot dogs, chips, and drinks for staff and their families. 💛🐾❤️
It was a great night of food, fun, and Bulldog spirit! 🏈

Ms. Bugg’s Kindergarten students had an apple-solutley fun time exploring apples this week! They used their five senses to see, smell, touch, hear, and taste apples, then created a graph of their favorite types of apples. Hands-on learning at its sweetest! #KindergartenAdventures #HandsOnLearning #AppleExploration

Our third graders had some special visitors today! Members of the Goochland Pet Lovers stopped by to share how they help animals in our community and how we can all show kindness and care to pets. Thank you, Goochland Pet Lovers, for inspiring our young animal advocates! 🐾

Ms. Alvis's kindergarteners and Ms. Ferguson's 4th grade students kicked off Book Buddies today!
They spent time reading together, sharing friendship and kindness stories, and getting to know one another. It’s wonderful to see the joy of reading bring our students together across grade levels! 💚💛📚

Our kindergarteners took learning outside today! They had a blast with Ms. Alvis and Ms. Austin reviewing shapes and practicing their writing with colorful chalk on the sidewalks.
Chalk + sunshine = lots of smiles and learning fun!

🌎💧 Randolph Elementary fourth graders are diving into environmental science!
This week, students learned about the different types of watersheds in Virginia during an engaging lesson led by representatives from the Monacan Soil and Water Conservation District. Hands-on activities and real-world examples helped bring science standards to life while showing students how watersheds connect to their daily lives.
A big thank you to the Monacan Soil and Water Conservation District for supporting our students’ learning! 🌿✨

🎉 September is Attendance Awareness Month and our students are showing their school spirit while focusing on the importance of being at school every day!
✅ At all three elementary schools, students are participating in Attendance Matters Spirit Week—today was “Head for Success” day, and hats of all kinds were on display. 👒🧢🎩
✅ At Goochland Middle School, grade levels are facing off in an attendance challenge. The winning grade earns a special surprise (and of course, major bragging rights!).
We’re proud of our students for celebrating the power of showing up—because every day counts!

🇺🇸👏 At our September School Board meeting, we proudly recognized two outstanding students for their achievements in the Americanism Essay Contest through the Goochland American Legion.
Both students received honors at the state level in Virginia and were also recognized nationally for their powerful essays. 🏅✍️
We are so proud of their hard work, talent, and representation of GCPS on both the state and national stage! 🌟

We're excited to see everyone "Dress for Success" tomorrow as we kick off Attendance Matters spirit week!
Every day counts! When students are present, they are learning, growing, and building a brighter future. Consistent attendance helps kids stay connected with their teachers, classmates, and the important lessons happening each day. Let's work together to make every day a great day for learning! #EveryDayCounts #weRrandolph
