Ms. Roe and Ms. Dreyfuss Earth Science classes did some work in fossil stations coming back from winter break! They practiced trace fossils and mold and cast fossils using play-doh, foil, plastic dinos, and silicone fossil molds! #SOARingToGether

Happy 2025, Eagles 🦅! We know you still have a few more days of Winter Break, but there’s a new 📘Beanstack Challenge📚 for January! If you complete 300 reading minutes (5 hours for the whole month), and complete a few simple activities, you can earn PBIS points and a small prize from the LC. 📢 ‼️Additionally, our school has the chance to earn prizes through Beanstack if we read more than other participating schools, so help GMS win 🏆 by logging your minutes⏱️! You can log minutes while you’re reading over the break and throughout the month of January (and beyond, of course)!

Our Student PBIS Team hosted a Holiday Gift Grab & Raffle the week before break! Students earned PBIS Points by finding gift cutouts & enjoyed a raffle with prizes like a drone & designer pouch. The team also ran the SOAR Store—showing creativity and leadership! #SOARingToGether

Mr. Tate's Inventions and Innovations students showcased their final Adaptive Technology projects today! Each class that completed the project selected a 'tribute' and they presented to a panel of judges, including Dr. Chu from VCU. All the students at the final presentation did an amazing job! #SOARingToGether

QUEST students show off their knowledge in a passion project today! The last few weeks have been a whirlwind of research, planning, project creation, and presentation practice inside of Room R219, and it showed today in a very successful way! #SOARingToGether

We have been doing the 12 Days of Cheer at GMS! Teachers have enjoyed drink cart deliveries, movies and popcorn during lunch, and some games during their planning period all leading up to winter break. #SOARingToGether

Congratulations to our robotics team, the Junkyard Pups, for their competition this past weekend! They won a qualifying match and went through multiple iterations with their robot, making growth each round. #SOARingToGether

We're excited to share a wonderful reading incentive program sponsored by Goochland Restaurant! Students can earn free rewards by reading and tracking their progress. Here's how it works: Students will receive a bookmark to log their reading. After completing 8 books, they can bring their bookmark to Goochland Restaurant and choose a reward: a free drink plus either fries, onion rings, or a cookie. The best part? Students can complete multiple bookmarks and earn multiple rewards (see Mrs. Dewey in the LC for additional bookmarks)! We hope this program encourages and celebrates our students' reading achievements.

Who ate "Gingy" the Gingerbread Man? @MrsDeweyGMS has planned a whole forensics scene for students to explore and Ms. Jones' 8th grade English classes are doing some creative free writing to create their own stories with twists, turns, and surprises! #SOARingToGether

Mr. Tate's Inventions and Innovations classes started working on an Adaptive Technology project today. They explored the idea of how 3D printing can help improve someone's life or make someone more independent. Final projects will be presented 'Shark Tank'-style! #SOARingToGether

Teachers had a fun time today hunting for turkeys! Different colored turkeys were hidden all over the school and once they were found, teachers received a prize. Thanks to our PTSA for donating the prizes for our turkey hunt! #SOARingToGether

Mr. Montgomery’s Make It Your Business I & II classes are learning about Financial Literacy. They invited Mrs. Tori Filas, a Sr. Financial Educator from Virginia Credit Union to bring an engaging lesson on Budgeting & Saving. Her lesson included a Real-World Budget Simulation and an M & M Budget Game. It’s great to enjoy a sweet treat after a lesson! #SOARingToGether
