We're excited to share a wonderful reading incentive program sponsored by Goochland Restaurant! Students can earn free rewards by reading and tracking their progress. Here's how it works: Students will receive a bookmark to log their reading. After completing 8 books, they can bring their bookmark to Goochland Restaurant and choose a reward: a free drink plus either fries, onion rings, or a cookie. The best part? Students can complete multiple bookmarks and earn multiple rewards (see Mrs. Dewey in the LC for additional bookmarks)! We hope this program encourages and celebrates our students' reading achievements.

Who ate "Gingy" the Gingerbread Man? @MrsDeweyGMS has planned a whole forensics scene for students to explore and Ms. Jones' 8th grade English classes are doing some creative free writing to create their own stories with twists, turns, and surprises! #SOARingToGether

Mr. Tate's Inventions and Innovations classes started working on an Adaptive Technology project today. They explored the idea of how 3D printing can help improve someone's life or make someone more independent. Final projects will be presented 'Shark Tank'-style! #SOARingToGether

Teachers had a fun time today hunting for turkeys! Different colored turkeys were hidden all over the school and once they were found, teachers received a prize. Thanks to our PTSA for donating the prizes for our turkey hunt! #SOARingToGether

Mr. Montgomery’s Make It Your Business I & II classes are learning about Financial Literacy. They invited Mrs. Tori Filas, a Sr. Financial Educator from Virginia Credit Union to bring an engaging lesson on Budgeting & Saving. Her lesson included a Real-World Budget Simulation and an M & M Budget Game. It’s great to enjoy a sweet treat after a lesson! #SOARingToGether

Yesterday, Goochland had an Apple Distinguished Schools visit! We had visitors from Apple and from schools all across Virginia. It was great to share how GCPS is integrating technology into our classrooms to enhance teaching and learning in innovative ways. At GMS, we highlighted how Mr. Tate is working with our Robotics Team, the Junkyard Pups, and how he uses robotics in his Inventions and Innovations class. Visitors also saw Ms. Parks' Art 7 class and how she uses digital tools to enhance her art class. Finally, they stopped by Mr. Beasley's Tech Innovations class to see how he in using coding in his class, like their project to create an airplane launcher with Hummingbird robots. The classroom visits highlighted the power of collaboration, student voice, and teacher/student engagement in elevating educational experiences for our students here at GCPS! #SOARingToGether

Mr. Beasley & Ms. Miller worked on a new project using LEDs & Microbits in his Tech Systems class. First, they practiced soldered, putting wires onto the LEDs to be able to use the Microbits. Then, the class tried a variety of codes on their LEDs in the Microsoft Makecode space.

The GMS SCA and the Goochland Christmas Mother are partnering together to collect food items for our local community. GMS students have been asked to specifically donate canned fruit and tomatoes and instant potatoes; however, any non-perishable food items will be accepted. Students will be holding a friendly grade-level competition, with the grade who donates the most food items winning outdoor seating at lunch, PBIS points, and a movie! All donations must be received by the morning of Friday, November 15.
