Innovation with purpose! 💡🖨️
Students in Mr. Bryan Tate’s class put their 3-D printing skills to work designing adaptive technology to support individuals with disabilities. Working in teams, students created devices focused on accessibility and problem-solving, then presented their designs to members of our Central Office team.
Every project showcased creativity and thoughtful design, but a few stood out:
🥇 First place: Adaptive scissors
🥈 Second place: Seat belt grip
🥉 Third place: Cup-holding grip
We’re proud of our students for using technology to make a meaningful difference for others!

🎶 What a wonderful night of music! Last week, Goochland Middle School and Goochland High School students filled the stage with beautiful voices and incredible talent at their choral concert. We are so proud of our singers and grateful to our choral director, Mrs. Erinne Smitherman, for creating such a meaningful experience for our students. Bravo to everyone involved! 👏

This past weekend, the Junkyard Strays, one of 🦅Goochland Middle School's two robotics teams, participated in their first robotics tournament. This was a fantastic learning experience! The Strays just formed in late September, so their team goal was just to have a functioning robot by the time of the tournament and to then learn from their tournament experience. Even though the Strays were the newest and youngest team at the tournament (most teams were 8th grade and older), they still managed to win a match and to score the most "Artifact" points in one match (Artifact points are scored by the robot being able to launch a ball into a target).
The Strays🐾 are very excited to get ready for their next tournament which will be in early January.

Our own 🦅Goochland Middle School Junkyard Pups robotics team went undefeated in qualifiers today winning 5 matches to become the 2nd seed in the tournament and ultimately qualifying for the Regional tournament during their first competition of the season. They also won 🥇first place in the Judge's Choice Award for their engineering presentation. These are both a first for GMS! HUGE congratulations to the Junkyard Pups Robotics team🤖!

Due to the forecast for winter weather, Goochland County Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, December 8th. Current predictions indicate snowfall beginning in the early morning and continuing throughout the day, with the possibility of 1–2 inches or more, accompanied by temperatures that are expected to remain below freezing. These conditions may create hazardous travel for buses and drivers, and the safety of our students and staff is always our top priority.
All after-school and evening activities are also canceled. We encourage families to stay safe and warm and enjoy the snow day ahead. Thank you for your understanding and support!
